ROME -- Tonino Cervi, an Italian producer, screenwriter and director who worked with such film greats as Federico Fellini, Bernardo Bertolucci and Michelangelo Antonioni, died of a heart attack Sunday. He was 71. Cervi died on the way to a hospital in Siena. A Roman native, he was spending the Easter holidays there with his family.

Jackie Kennedy exhibit to open in Washington

Experience the arts before it's too late

But there's still one month of school left, which means there's plenty of time to appreciate the arts in Bloomington. Senior Jared Carson just wanted to go on spring break. And like many other students at IU and in schools across the nation, access to enough dough for a trip to somewhere warm was as easy as whipping out the good old plastic. Carson's is a Visa. Its current balance is sitting pretty around $3,000, a number that is often tripled by students before graduation. He got it, like so many other students do, from an offer mailed to him directly, pre-approved, for more money than possible for him to make as a full-time student.

Don't get carried away

Mom says we should support our boys. She was talking about the game. The basketball game. But she might as well have been talking about any number of conflicts going on around the world. I am often told I should be better about supporting our boys in Afghanistan. I wonder if I should do the same for our boys in Yemen, training that country's army. Or our boys at Guantanamo Bay, guarding the interminably imprisoned Taliban soldiers, force-feeding the hunger strikers who are protesting their uncertain fate. And then there's the ultimate boy we're all supposed to be supporting: Our boy wonder in the White House.

Solving the Alzheimer's problem

When I was about five years old, I remember visiting my 80-year-old great-grandmother over the summer. I don't remember much about her, but I do recall how I used to borrow her old purses and shoes to dress up in when I got restless during our family visits. I also remember how weird I thought she was when she asked me, a five-year old in a pink dress, how many kids I had. At the time I was confused, and I just assumed she was a strange woman. Then she asked my dad if he remembered to shut the barn door. Since we didn't live on a farm or have a barn within a 20-mile vicinity of our home, I was completely bewildered by the ramblings of my great-grandmother.

After the Hoosiers' loss to the Maryland Terrapins, crowds on Kirkwood Avenue set T-shirts and trees on fire and tore down street lights, street signs and trees. Police dispersed the unruly crowd with the release of tear gas, sending students running through campus.

Hardly any conversation these days digresses to the topic of the U.N.'s International Criminal Court (ICC). Because it doesn't appear to be a pressing issue, many Americans are completely clueless of the extent ICC could affect them. But beware if you are or know somebody who wears the uniform.

International court necessary

On April 22, the International Criminal Court is expected to get the ratifications necessary to go into effect. This would eliminate the need for ad hoc military tribunals like the kind where Milosevic is currently being prosecuted. The ICC will allow for a more efficient way to prosecute war crimes and will ensure that future war criminals are punished. The ICC is needed to facilitate America's war on terrorism and create a more efficient international judicial system.

Imagine if we had lost the game to Duke. None of the students would be at Showalter Fountain, in a group so large that police eventually let them do what they wanted, like climb lamposts and parked buses. I wouldn't have gotten a chance to witness the unity among students. Even amid the crowd surfing, the shouting and screaming, everyone was gathered together for a reason: IU had beaten Duke by one point. We were on our way to the Elite Eight.
