Let's bring it back home

As the Indiana Daily Student reported Friday, students are reviving a chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union on campus. The group is aptly going to be named the IU Civil Liberties Union. The original group was abandoned six years ago. To the students with the gumption to re-start the group, we say congratulations, and good job. We're looking forward to having a group that will add to IU's already lively political scene. A campus group to make students' voices heard can only be a good thing. Our secondary props go out for their emphasis on the bipartisanship of the group and its politically inclusive attitude.

Famed actor, singer Howard Keel dies at 85

LOS ANGELES--Howard Keel, the broad-shouldered baritone who romanced his way through a series of glittery MGM musicals such as "Kiss Me Kate" and "Annie Get Your Gun" and later revived his career with television's "Dallas," died Sunday. He was 85. Keel died Sunday morning of colon cancer, said` his son, Gunnar.

IU ready to tip-off exhibition season

Iraqi government declares emergency rule

Dueling for victories

It was a long, strenuous weekend for the IU men's swimming and diving team. After a sweep at the hands of Texas the weekend prior, the Hoosiers knew the next couple of meets could help separate them from the pack. The No. 13 ranked Hoosiers first met the No. 14 ranked Northwestern Wildcats Friday in the team's first dual meet against a conference opponent. Both teams fought a hard battle and the meet proved as close as the two teams' rankings would suggest.

Late collapse ends bowl dreams

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Late in the third quarter with the Hoosiers driving downfield, senior quarterback Matt LoVecchio ran for a first down, putting IU in the red zone and in position to increase its lead. Instead of getting up, LoVecchio laid dazed and confused on the turf, the same emotions the team felt after letting another fourth quarter lead and any hopes of a bowl bid slip away in a 26-22 loss to Illinois Saturday afternoon.

'Dreaming' offers glimpse into family memories

Nell Weatherwax's improvisational autobiographical show "Dreaming on Your Feet" received echoing applause Friday in the Bloomington Playwrights Project's Lora Shiner Studio. Weatherwax explored memories of family through storytelling, mime and dance to create an engaging theatrical experience. On this particular night, her memories returned to themes of home and the fragility of relationships.

Last Wednesday was, hands down, one of the saddest days in my young political life. Going into Tuesday, I figured if Americans just took a long, hard look at the policies and the record of President George W. Bush, there was no way he would be re-elected. I am not the biggest fan of Sen. John Kerry.
