A house neglected

Throughout this year a task force, led by former IU Student Association Director of Women’s Affairs Lindsay Kerrigan, reviewed the effectiveness of the Rape Crisis Fund – a voluntary fee assessed on students when registering. The task force has now announced its decision: Middle Way House, a Bloomington nonprofit organization helping the victims of rape and domestic violence (among other services), will lose a significant amount of income formally associated with the fund.

For the second weekend in a row, the IU men’s soccer team traveled up to Indianapolis to battle not only a tough opponent, but also less-than-ideal playing conditions. The hard, uneven field of Warren Central High School proved to be a speed bump in the Hoosiers’ offensive attack as it tied Cincinnati 1-1 during the Literacy Classic on Friday.

Just four years

New York enlists help in investigation of student loan kickbacks

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday enlisted the support of his counterparts in Illinois and other states to help investigate what he considers kickbacks in the $85 billion student loan industry. Canvas creative-arts magazine celebrates 10 years at IU with event

With 10 years of hard work tucked under their belts, the people behind Canvas magazine have decided to celebrate with their special 10th anniversary issue, to be released Friday. A premiere event for the magazine will take place at 4 p.m. Friday in the Sunken Garden of the Indiana Memorial Union. Canvas is a literary magazine that publishes work by students each semester.

Little 50 kicks off ‘world’s greatest college weekend’

Chicago Field Museum exhibit to feature some of world’s most famous maps

CHICAGO – You have a world atlas on your desk. With a few mouse clicks, you can print out door-to-door directions via the Internet. Then there’s the GPS device mounted on your car’s windshield. With Americans possessing more tools than ever to help get them where they want to go, a major upcoming exhibit at the Field Museum will route how maps have changed over the centuries and how various cultures have chosen to depict the world. “Maps: Finding Our Place in the World,” opening Nov. 2, will feature more than 130 famous or prized maps.

Track teams spend Little 500 weekend in Louisville at meet

Originally, the IU track-and-field teams had the Little 500 weekend off. But when the Indiana Relays were canceled April 7 due to bad weather, their coaches added this weekend’s Cardinal Invitational to their schedule.
