Stopping at the fork in the road for the Bucket game

·

It’s been a long time since the Hoosiers played a “must-see game.” But if you’re in Bloomington on Saturday and not inside Memorial Stadium, I feel bad for you. Stop talking about Eric Gordon for 48 hours. This weekend belongs to the football team.

The Cardiac Kids return

·

The year was 1967. Already up 13-7 against Purdue, Hoosier running back Terry Cole sprinted 48 yards up the middle to give IU a commanding 19-7 lead, ultimately culminating in the program’s only Rose Bowl berth.

IU alumna Meg Cabot to release latest book Tuesday

·

After nearly 50 books, New York Times bestselling-author Meg Cabot is at it again. Her well-known series “The Princess Diaries” made a splash at the box office with every teenage girl’s favorite royal Princess Mia, but tiaras will be taking a backseat in Cabot’s new novel “Big Boned.”

Photo students display work from Japan trip

Last summer, 11 IU undergraduates, graduate students and professors traveled thousands of miles to Osaka, Japan, with one thing on their minds: communication. The group of Americans aimed to capture “communication” in photographic form, and they only had four weeks to do it.

Impossible promises

·

It’s pretty simple, really. I’d like increased government spending, I just don’t want higher taxes. I want all bad things ended immediately, and the number of good things to increase 10-fold. Also, I should really mention that I want to feel safe – all the time. But I don’t want my civil liberties encroached upon, and I don’t like waiting in line at the airport.

Politics of spending

·

Thank God Election Day 2007 is finally behind us. Now we can forget about all the city council members and mayors we just elected and return our focus to national politics.

Show me the progress!

Sky-high executive pay at Fortune 500 companies is nothing new, and although many of us might not like it, CEOs receive gargantuan compensation packages even if they send their companies diving into the dirt.

Take back Assembly Hall

·

Outside of our hatred of buying overpriced books at the bookstores, I cannot think of a single campus cause that can unite students more than our fight for a better student section at IU basketball games.

Curing Sicko

·

Fort Wayne resident Maria Parra doesn’t have health insurance. Even though she graduated from IU with a Masters in Business Administration, the 51-year-old information technology contractor has high blood pressure and cannot afford to pay $500 a month for insurance. Parra and the other 47 million uninsured people in the U.S. are the reason that Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan and several other local organizations have taken to the road as part of the HealthCare Now! Sicko National Road Show bus tour. As part of the group’s goal to encourage legislators to co-sponsor House Resolution 676, a bill designed to reform health care in the U.S., the bus tour stopped in Bloomington on Wednesday for a rally outside the Monroe County Courthouse.
