(D)efending (R)acists?

One of the goals of “You Know I’m Right” is to help inform you of important stories that receive little to no coverage in major news outlets. Last week, for example, a senator running for president was asked why schools in Iowa perform better than schools in Washington, D.C. He replied, “There’s less than 1 percent of the population of Iowa that is African-American. There is probably less than 4 or 5 percent that are minorities. What is in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with.”

Kelley School to partner with Korean university

On Tuesday, the Kelley School of Business and Sungkyunkwan University of Seoul, South Korea signed an agreement to allow students from the global business undergraduate program at SKKU to attend both universities and receive two degrees.

Indiana to add almost 23,000 jobs this year

Despite fears of recession on a national level, Indiana’s economy continues to add new jobs including 22,600 this year, according to an Indiana Economic Development Corporation press release.

IU to fight Illini at home Sunday

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Instead of London and Paris, the phrase borrowed from Charles Dickens is a tale about Bloomington and Champaign. The tale of the two cities was authored by freshman guard Eric Gordon and his decision to de-commit from Illinois and commit to IU in October 2006. It was a decision which captured national headlines and severely altered each team’s expectations for the 2007-2008 season.

Hoosiers fall to No. 19 Ohio State on the road

The IU women’s basketball team played No. 19 Ohio State tough on the road, but the Buckeyes used the play of Jantel Lavender, Marscilla Packer and Tamarah Riley to earn a 71-59 victory Thursday night in Columbus. Lavender scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Packer and Riley added 17 and 16 points, respectively.

What if...

There’s not a lot of history in men’s basketball between IU and Illinois, not in comparison to, say, IU and Purdue or IU and Kentucky. Hoosier grandfathers don’t gather the kids around the peach basket to talk about epic IU-UI contests. In past decades, the Illini weren’t any more significant than any other Big Ten opponent. That was before the bad blood. That was before the recruitment of Eric Gordon.
