No. 2 US commander hopes al-Sadr will cease attacks on Iraqi forces

BAGHDAD – The No. 2 U.S. commander in Iraq expressed hope Wednesday that radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr would use his influence to stop his followers from attacking U.S. and Iraqi forces as clashes spread to the outskirts of Baghdad.

IU loses final nonconference game

The IU softball team was not able to avenge an earlier loss to Louisville as it was defeated 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in its final nonconference game. Despite the loss, pitcher Sara Olson bounced back after a tough weekend by pitching a complete game. The freshman only gave up one run, allowed five hits and surrendered a single walk while striking out four.

Inflation forces area delis, bakeries to raise prices

Bloomington businesses are raising their prices as food inflation reaches its highest in 17 years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. To deal with the rising costs of wheat, milk and fruits, delis and bakeries are being forced to raise prices to maintain profits.
