Indiana increases sales tax

·

A penny on the dollar. That’s what students and faculty are paying extra after Tuesday’s sales tax increase from 6 to 7 percent.

Eric Bibb: Get On Board

Bummin’ With blues

·

Don’t even consider buying this album if you’re looking for some good blues; you won’t find it here.

The Kite Runner

Not adequate atonement

·

Like last year’s “Atonement,” Marc Forster’s adaptation of the Khaled Hosseini novel “The Kite Runner” is a story about guilt from past mistakes haunting the present.

Run, Fat Boy, Run

No gold for this race

·

David Schwimmer (forever affectionately known to us as “Ross”) makes his directorial debut, with some style but no real tear-inducing laughs in this new light comedy starring Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton and Hank Azaria.

Superhero Movie

Nothing super about it

·

Similar to the ridiculously goofy movie spoofs that have been successful over the past few years (think “Scary Movie” installments 1-4, “Epic Movie,” etc.), “Superhero Movie” follows in the same footsteps and delivers over-the-top comedy that is at best, corny.

B-52's

This tin roof is rusted

·

The B-52’s have never been known to make poignant, thought-provoking music. But they’ve never really cared either.

Sidetracked

·

Alex Cohen grades this week’s hottest tracks.

Love at first bullet

·

Before Beyonce and Jay-Z, Justin and Britney and even before Joanie and Chachi, there was Bonnie and Clyde.

Casino chic

·

Being a high roller is no easy task, and looking like one is an even greater challenge. Today’s big earners at the casinos know that in order to play well, you have to look good, too.

WILL SMITH stars as Robert Neville in Warner Bros. Pictures

Short of legendary

·

When something is labeled as an “alternate” version, it should be at least slightly different than what was shown in the theater, not the exact same film with a different ending tacked on.

"Man, that chick on the right looks pretty hot. Wait, she's a what? Wait... WHAT?!"

Lonely together

·

Reading the reviews accompanying each Raconteurs album, it’s hard not to feel a bit sorry for Brendan Benson.

Nothing says badass quite like middle age, glasses and a banjo – in the softest focus you can imagine.

Party like it's 1929

·

West Virginia native Tim O’Brien is an award-winning songwriter and vocalist. As a member of bluegrass band Hot Rize, he won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s first Entertainer of the Year award in 1990.

Panic at the Disco

Pretty. Great.

·

Panic! At The Disco burst into the mainstream in 2006 with heaps of off-the-wall pop songs and “guyliner.

Gnarls Barkley

Prince Gnarls

·

With its trippy-electronic pop production and the infectious single “Crazy,” Gnarls Barkley’s St. Elsewhere was the album of the summer in 2006.

One of the Counting Crows has better hair than the others. Can you spot him?

Count on the Crows

·

After a band has been around for a while, the question always arises of whether the group has passed the prime of its musical career. With their recent release from Geffen Records titled Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, the Counting Crows’ sweet melodic harmonies and thoughtful lyrics drift further from the assumption that there is nothing more left in store for the band than its ’90s hits.

Michael Reschke

Billy's goat

·

Billy’s Chicago Place proves that nothing is as good as the original. Although I was pleased with my overall dining experience, I’m convinced that I’ll have to go to Chicago if I want to experience the authentic Chicago-style food so many IU students rave about.

Isn't the using a cowboy hat as a bowl as over as using a cowboy hat as a hat?

Iraq war, MTV style

·

The title of Kimberly Peirce’s “Stop-Loss” refers to a military policy that involuntarily extends an enlisted person’s service duty.

IUSA Editorial

$82,600 - That’s IUSA’s budget for 2007-2008. If it’s true that “you get what you pay for,” IU students are getting shortchanged.
