Obama office to open on Monday in Bloomington

As part of the Indiana Campaign for Change, Barack Obama is opening new offices throughout the state, Obama’s presidential campaign will open an office in Bloomington on Monday at the old Tortilla Flat restaurant building, 501 N. Walnut St.

Crimson and Gold Cup ends in 1st-ever tie

When Austin Starr kicked a field goal to capture the Old Oaken Bucket, the Hoosiers tied Purdue in points for the Crimson and Gold Cup, a head-to-head series that pits the two Indiana schools against one another in athletic competition. Six months and 17 contests later, the tie stands.

This past week, after being given the heave-ho from star point guard Brandon Jennings, veteran Arizona coach Lute Olson announced he is finished with signing “one-and-done” players.

Rowing program adds 3 new assistant coaches for 2008-09

When the IU rowing team ended their season on May 18 after a 14th place finish out of 22 teams at the Aramark Central/South Region Sprints IU coach Steve Peterson said the team did a good job but thought they could have done better.

IU team wins Imagine Cup Interface Design competition in Paris

Two graduate students in the School of Informatics recently won $8,000 and the chance to bump into actor David Hasselhoff. David Roedl and Will Odom won this year's Microsoft Imagine Cup competition in the interface design division on June 8 in Paris, according to the Imagine Cup Web site. In the competition, more than 200,000 students from around the world competed in nine categories, including Software Design, Game Development, Short Film and Interface Design.

John Mayer goes live

The thought of shelling out extra bucks for a live album when you already own most of an artist’s tracks seems silly. Absurd, even. But John Mayer’s Where the Light Is (like his previous double live album) is a brilliant exception.

All in all the album is a stellar release from a band that has softened over the years, what with half the Crue having done Vh1 reality shows and one having written his memoirs. Saints of Los Angeles shows you why the Crue are gods of rock.

Hole In The Sun has an almost perfect mix of fast and slow songs; songs that interchangeably go from infectious guitar riffs to ardent melodies. They have clearly shown that they’re not afraid to go in a new direction, while still managing to retain the sound that made them one of the quintessential ’80s bands.
