Loyalty

·

My love for the Bears was inherited. Before I knew what life was all about, I had a poster of the late and great Walter Payton on the wall over my bed and a cozy Bears hat, handmade by my grandmother, on my head.

Double think

·

The Democrats began their campaign for reform from the Republican perspective. They have let the Republicans dictate much of the conversation regarding all current government projects, despite a clear consensus that a majority of the nation disagreed with the way Republicans had been leading the nation the previous eight years.

Why the stagnation?

·

Last week was World Space Week, although an observant consumer of major news media could be forgiven for having not known it.

Whose fantasy?

·

Often times, we liberal college students are accused of being in our own bubble, away from the “real world.” But it was precisely moving closer to that “real world” that challenged my stale taxes-are-bad, Ron-Paul-is-good economic outlook.

The good-vibe virus

·

Wherever you are right now – whether you’re waiting in line for coffee or sitting at your desk in class – take a quick look at all of the strangers around you. What keeps you from introducing yourself to them? That nervous feeling in your chest? A lack of time?

Clarifying meal point options

There have been many stories lately in the IDS about a plan to have “meal points” in the Union and the Wells Library. These stories have been falsely portraying this plan and making it sound as if the students will be able to use the same meal points at these locations as they use in the residence hall dining facilities. This is not true.

Closing the wage gap

I would like to thank Rachel Goldberg for her column Oct. 7. She wrote mostly about women in the media, but she also touched on the still-present wage gap for women today. Gee, we’re all the way up to 72 cents per hour for each dollar men make for the same or comparable work.

The Indiana Daily Student

A tremendous effort

When more than 40 IU students returned from taking part in the National Equality March in Washington before sunrise on Monday morning, we all eagerly awaited that day’s IDS. We expected that like every major news outlet in the country and a long list of university newspapers, the IDS would cover our failed campaign for a subsidized bus, subsequent organization of a large group of students to caravan and beyond-successful strong Hoosier presence at the march on Sunday.
