Well, no one can accuse Bon Jovi of not being consistent.
On their latest album, “The Circle,” the band sounds the same as they did 20 years ago, cranking out sing-along rock songs that should be played at only the highest of volumes.
“We Weren’t Born to Follow” leads things off in typical Jovi fashion. The song reeks of corny inspiration and a call to be yourself, but when it comes to Bon Jovi, those things are positives.
Most of the tracks are like this, some kind of inspirational message melded with power chords. Songs like “Live Before You Die” and “Superman Tonight” remind listeners that in today’s world of cynicism and whatever other evils might be ravaging the planet, life still has a lot to offer.
At least if you’re Bon Jovi it does.
But all kidding aside, Bon Jovi still has managed to maintain their identity after 20 years in the industry, and “The Circle” is a testament to that. They might not be what they once were, but the band can still certainly bring it.
