$5 million grant aids IU-Kenya health partnership

The Indiana-Kenya Partnership received a $5 million supplement toward promoting primary care facilities in Kenya, Africa. The joint partnership also known as the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare connects the IU School of Medicine, the Moi University School of Medicine in Eldoret, Kenya and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Together they treat more than 70,000 HIV patients in Kenya.

It might be “green,” but the Kirkwood ticket kicked off its IU Student Association campaign with a bang. At an eco-themed rally Feb. 2 at the Indiana Memorial Union, the ticked announced its candidacy and introduced its platform, “The Kirkwood Promise.”

A friend’s dare brought junior Nicole Aders to psychic Rebecca Bartlett. Curiosity anchored her to stay for a session, though she was skeptical and terrified. She sat erect and drew quick breaths – in and out, in and out – as though she sprinted up the steps and down the blank, gray corridor to Bartlett’s office. It was a rainy Friday, and water drops speckled the surface of  her suede boots.

Shortage creates struggle to find nursing faculty

As faculty and lecturers retire, the IU School of Nursing struggles to replace them. The school, which offers bachelor of nursing degrees on the Indianapolis, Bloomington and Columbus campuses, has 14 openings on its Web site.

Enrollment decreases gender gap

While the majority of students on campus usually tend to be women, records of attendance from the Office of the Registrar show that this academic year is the first time since 1982 that male enrollment has exceeded female.

Throw it out

Some have trouble parting with clothes that remind them of positive memories and times in their lives when they were at their best. But over time, they age, go out of style or do not fit anymore, making them obsolete in a wardrobe. The emotional attachment toward clothing makes it hard to get rid of. We sometimes equate losing the item that reminds us of a particular time or event to losing memories.

Sage Collection stylizes history

In 1913, Elisabeth Sage, the first IU professor of clothing and textiles, started a private fashion collection for teaching and classroom activities. After retirement in 1937, she donated her collection to IU and planted the first seeds of the Elisabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection.

Dead woman found, yet to be identified

At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a possible death. Three of the dead woman’s acquaintances found the woman on her condo floor at 3740 S. Cramer Circle in Bloomington.
