At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a possible death. Three of the dead woman’s acquaintances found the woman on her condo floor at 3740 S. Cramer Circle in Bloomington.
“The body appears to have been here for a few weeks,” said Jennifer Kissinger, the Monroe County Deputy Coroner.
“We do not have any positive identification of the victim,” Kissinger said. “She appears to be middle-aged and is a widow.”
As of now, officers are still attempting to find relatives and possible next of kin.
The death appears to be of natural causes, Kissinger said. The victim lived alone.
Officers discovered one unidentified prescription bottle, a cane and a walker inside the residence. The woman had a dog and cat that were taken to a shelter by an animal management officer of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
Because the body was so decomposed, it wouldn’t be transported by ambulance, Thomas said. The body was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Diggers Mortuary Services, where forensic pathologists will try to determine the exact cause of death.
