Quick turnaround could pose problems for Hoosiers

In its final regular season game against Northwestern last Saturday, IU managed to scrape out an 88-80 win in overtime. The Hoosiers will look to use the same methods that got them the Senior Day victory in the Big Ten Tournament’s opening round in a rematch with the Wildcats today.

A judge on Tuesday rejected a former Purdue University student’s plea in the fatal shooting of a friend during an alcohol-fueled prank, telling him the charges and his plea were too lenient.

$1.9 billion deal settled for Indianapolis Gas

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis officials proposed Wednesday selling off the city’s water and sewer utilities in a $1.9 billion deal that they said would hold down rate increases while providing millions of dollars for street repairs and other projects.

Riley Hospital expansion back on track

Despite an 11-month delay in construction, the Simon Family Tower at Riley Hospital for Children is still on track to be finished by 2013. The Simon Family and Riley Hospital for Children are synonymous with IU Dance Marathon, with millions of dollars donated from IU students to Riley Children Foundation.

Waldron news conference to announce arts center’s future

The Bloomington Area Arts Council met with city officials Wednesday to discuss a proposal on whether to transfer ownership of the John Waldron Arts Center to the City of Bloomington.Miah Michaelsen, assistant economic development director for the arts at City Hall, said that the BAAC and city officials will hold a press conference 10 a.m. Thursday to announce the decision reached in the meeting.

Proposed math, English standards released

Math and English instruction in the United States moved a step closer to uniform — and more rigorous — standards Wednesday as drafts of new national guidelines were released. Supporters of the project led by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) hope the lists of things kids should learn at each grade level will replace a patchwork of systems across the country.
