IU alumna Meg Cabot to release latest book Tuesday

After nearly 50 books, New York Times bestselling-author Meg Cabot is at it again. Her well-known series “The Princess Diaries” made a splash at the box office with every teenage girl’s favorite royal Princess Mia, but tiaras will be taking a backseat in Cabot’s new novel “Big Boned.”

Last summer, 11 IU undergraduates, graduate students and professors traveled thousands of miles to Osaka, Japan, with one thing on their minds: communication. The group of Americans aimed to capture “communication” in photographic form, and they only had four weeks to do it.

Broadway openings delayed as stagehands continue strike

NEW YORK – No talks. No comment. And no opening nights. Wednesday was to have been the New York premiere of “The Farnsworth Invention,” the eagerly anticipated return to Broadway of playwright Aaron Sorkin, the creator of such television shows as “The West Wing” and “Sports Night.”

For 100 years, one opera has been fantastically popular and considered an essential part of any opera house’s repertoire – Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Exactly a century after the 1896 debut of the opera, a rock musical based off the characters and events was reinvented for the Broadway stage, and has since enjoyed the same amount of notoriety and controversy.

‘Hannah Montana’ fans sue over sold-out concerts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thousands of “Hannah Montana” fans who couldn’t get concert tickets could potentially join a lawsuit against the teen performer’s fan club over memberships they claim were supposed to give them priority for seats.

Itzhak Perlman to be artistic director

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The violinist Itzhak Perlman has been appointed artistic director of the Westchester Philharmonic, a coup for the 25-year-old suburban orchestra. Perlman, 62, will conduct most of the orchestra’s programs for three years beginning in September and will perform occasionally, the orchestra said Monday.

A measured success

Hearing the name William Shakespeare might be enough to scare off anyone from seeing a play after taking literature courses. Fear not. The IU Department of Theatre and Drama’s production of “Measure for Measure” jumps far from the classroom and into a very entertaining night of theater.
