____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>I have always dreamed, since I first heard The-Dream, that his music would stop sounding the same to me. I dreamed that he would mix it up — maybe some unique sounds and lyrical creativity to match his graceful singing talents. My dreams came true when I heard “Love King.”The-Dream’s third album is one that, after listening through a few times, I must say I finally enjoy. He steps it up with some varied rhythms, assuring that no two tracks on this album sound the same. The fact that this album only has 12 tracks works in its favor. With only 12 songs, no ideas are repeated, and the album doesn’t become stale. It might leave you wanting more, but that’s what a music artist should do.My only complaint about “Love King” is that while it has individually enjoyable songs, they don’t flow well as an album. Listen to “Appetite for Destruction” by Guns N’ Roses and you’ll understand this idea.Still, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick this one up. It’s the epitome of an enjoyable summer album.

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Movie-goers can expect to see many of their favorite heroes in tights (and armor) on the big screen during the next two years. May 7: “Iron Man 2”The summer superhero blockbuster with the closest release date and biggest hype, of course, is “Iron Man 2.” After the success of the first film, many fans expect this sequel to shock and amaze.June 8: “Jonah Hex”This supernatural-tinged western has went through the development ringer and faced re-shoots and a possible delay in release, but the a new trailer shows that this Josh Brolin-vehicle could be good and not just a platform for more Megan Fox oogling. August 13: “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”“Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” mastermind Edgar Wright is driving the adaptation of one the most celebrated new series of recent years. Despite some hesitance towards Michael Cera playing another high school geek, this one looks beyond boss. Jan 14, 2011: “The Green Hornet”A would-be 2010 release, “The Green Hornet,” will instead be released next year. Though the modern movie-goer might not know of this hero from 1930s radio, a cast including Seth Rogen as the eponymous hero as well as futuristic 3D effects should make this one interesting. Oh, and let’s not forget Cameron Diaz as the love interest. May 6, 2011: “Thor”Fans who like their superheroes mixed with a little Norse mythology can look forward to next summer’s “Thor.” This star-studded ensemble, which includes Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins, features newcomer Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Kenneth Branagh in the director’s chair.June 17, 2011: “Green Lantern”The Green Lantern is back, this time as Justice League member Hal Jordan. ____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Besides the city- and University-sponsored community gardens, many other organizations give students the opportunity to better their gardening skills and their neighborhoods. WEEKEND contributor Derrick Naylor sat down with freshman Joseph Tatum, who got his first taste of gardening with a program run by Memorial Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind. Derrick Naylor: What was the purpose of the program?Joseph Tatum: Over the summer, to gain a few extra dollars, I worked with a local church’s gardening program. It was really just the church trying to give youth a chance to earn money during these times of economic struggle. DN: Was it challenging?JT: I had never gardened or planted anything other than a flower in a Styrofoam cup back in second grade. Because of that, I had to really pay attention to those around me. It was never an extremely hard skill to pick up, but in a matter of hours it became second nature. DN: What effect do you think the garden had on the surrounding community?JT: I think that in the inner-city, where people have to worry about things as simple as where their next meal will come from, beautiful scenery can offer a beacon of hope. The people deserve to at least look at something more than busted sidewalks and broken glass when they walk down the street.DN: What effect did you have on the environment?JT: Planting fruits and vegetables as well as plants and flowers will eventually increase the air quality in the smog-filled inner-city. Also, seeing a more serene surrounding will influence the people to respect their environment more and pollute less. DN: What made this experience personal for you?JT: Well, I obviously needed the money, but it was a great experience because the weather was nice. I made new friends who shared my need for money and life struggle in general. By the time the job was done, I discovered I had developed a passion for what I was doing, where in the beginning it was just work.DN: Would you do it again?JT: Absolutely. Though it can be time-consuming, it’s a great way to meet people and enjoy the good weather. It also turned out to be much more of a workout than I expected. DN: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start gardening?JT: I’m no expert on the subject, but I think all it takes is patience and dedication. Anyone can plant something. You are basically creating a life and allowing it to prosper.

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Racy, risky and edgy. Those were the words used by Usher himself to describe his new album, “Raymond v. Raymond.” More appropriate words could not have been used. From start to finish this album sounds more experimental than any of Usher’s previous efforts. The fruit of his labor is a treat to the ears with very few flaws. With Usher’s recent divorce from wife Tameka Foster, I expected this album to have the depressing undertones of “Confessions.” However, every beat in this album is uplifting with lyrics reminiscent of the fun and exciting Usher so many fans came to love.“Raymond” features a number of great guest appearances, including rappers Plies and T.I. However, the album feels too short. It brings great energy from start to finish, but it leaves you wanting much more. Hopefully, this 14-track release won’t be all fans will hear from Usher for another two years.Usher, my friend, you have returned.

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>For ages, humans have dreamed of manipulating time to their advantage. The evolution of this idea has taken a long and complex course. Though it’s impossible to pinpoint the exact beginning of time travel fantasy, a great starting place would be “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells. Written in 1895, this book popularized time travel and is where the term “time machine” originated. The protagonist, simply known as the Time Traveller, travels through time because of the “Block Universe” theory, which states that time is the universe’s fourth dimension. The Traveller’s device is a machine that can take him to any year he desires. This book gave a simple view on time travel, since The Traveller only seeks to explore other times and his actions do not change the course of events in history in any way — even though he might wish they could.“The Twilight Zone,” very influential in the 1960s, eroded the joy and wonder of time travel with an episode titled “The Odyssey of Flight 33.” In this episode, a pilot from the year 1961 flies his jet aircraft through a vortex where he somehow breaks the sound barrier. This relocates his jet and passengers to a random place in time. The time travelers on the plane could not choose the time period to which they travel, turning a central tenet of time travel into a cause for paranoia. The pilot even comments that they “can’t land in 1939,” suggesting that time travel can alter the course of history. While most earlier media praised it as a wonderful idea, “The Twilight Zone” consistently presented the darker aspects of time travel. Time travel became even more complex in the movie “Back to the Future” and its sequels. The movie showed how great an effect tampering with the past or future can have on the present. Also, like “The Twilight Zone,” it visited the dangers of being stuck in another time period. What set this time traveling experience apart was its portrayal of the good and bad aspects of time travel, combining them into one.Worth briefly mentioning is the character Trunks from the popular anime series, “Dragonball Z.” His character traveled back in time to prevent his family and friends from being killed by androids. He explained that even if he prevents his friends from being killed in the past, his friends in the future will still be dead because the course of history can only be changed in one dimension. The series’ take on time travel is not commonly used.Though the idea of time travel has greatly expanded, facing complex issues of physical and moral boundaries, some key ideas remain constant. Time travelers most commonly travel to the past to change some circumstance that ails their universe. Travel into the future is more often for exploration. Now it’s the year 2010 and even a hot tub can be a vessel for time travel. It’s anyone’s guess how exploration of this fourth dimension will further evolve.

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Everyone, at some point in their lives, has had an awkward period where
they didn’t quite fit in. Whether you came from a small town or booming
city, it wasn’t always easy finding a network of people with similar
interests to your own.
However, that all changed once we came to college. There are people
from every walk of life on this campus, so there is no longer any
excuse to be the loner who can’t connect with anyone. The campus fan
culture makes it so people can always find others to share their unique
interests with.
The school’s recreational sports have become a great activity for
students who want to enjoy the fun of sports without the huge
commitment required by being on an official team. The friendly
competition brought on by these sports creates a large network of
athletes who become friends even outside of the event.
Fans of believe IU’s rec sports are so popular because they allow
everyone to participate. They enjoy the large amount of competition
that arises from being on IU’s large and diverse campus.
Another venue where fan culture is prominent is the IU Art Museum. A
vast amount of IU students gravitate toward this place, regardless of
interest in art as a hobby or as a career. The museum provides a
network where artists meet and share their work.
Many older artists on campus love this place because they can share
advice and strategies for younger artists to improve. The museum allows
art fans to participate in various activities, including concerts where
music and art collide and exhibitions where students can showcase their
work.
Fans of the art museum find that giving young artists the opportunity to grow is its strongest appeal to IU students.
Many local bands that form on IU’s campus grow in popularity thanks to
word of mouth, Facebook and other social networking sites, and, of
course, their own talent. The indie rock trio Because We Are Human has
begun to increase its number of fans in this way. They have also
performed at downtown hotspots such as Rhino’s and BuffaLouie’s. Fandom
has also increased thanks to fans being able to hear their music online
for free through links to their Facebook fan page.
The advantage to being on IU’s campus is that the group can play a very
unique kind of music and still find many ears for it. In fact, the
group’s unique sound is the main thing that captures fans’ interests.
The pattern of IU fan culture continues to evolve as technology has
allowed word of mouth to travel faster and more efficiently. We can
network with those around us and find hobbies which are relaxing as
well as challenging.
A student who enters IU’s campus leaves with a greater sense of self
thanks to the indomitable spirit of the fan culture within.

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>What could be done that hasn’t already been done a million times in a superhero cartoon? How about teaming up with your worst enemy in order to battle your anti-selves from a parallel dimension?“Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” centers on the newly-formed Justice League as they are visited by Lex Luthor. This Luthor, however, is actually the leader and last survivor of the Justice League in a parallel dimension’s planet Earth. On his planet, the League is actually a mafia-style gang of super villains called the Crime Syndicate. These villains have powers exactly like the Justice League of our dimension. The proper League must stop the Crime Syndicate from completing a devastating plan that could destroy the entire universe. This movie’s unique plot kept me entertained throughout. There are a few boring stretches and tons of action scenes. This leads to some interesting battles of self vs. anti-self, including Superman vs. Ultraman and Batman vs. Owlman. It truly feels fresh and fans of superheroes, regardless of age, will want to see this movie.
