As usual, IU coach Bill Lynch addressed the media at his weekly Tuesday press conference. Here are some highlights.
IU coach Bill Lynch said during the weekly radio show that the team has contacted the Big Ten concerning the officiating during Saturday's game against Iowa, specifically a controversial touchdown called back in the third quarter.
After suffering a knee injury on the opening kick return, cornerback Ray Fisher left the game and didn't return. The IU football team released its depth chart for this upcoming week's game against Wisconsin, and Fisher was not listed either at cornerback or in his kickoff/punt return position. Fisher led the Big Ten and was fifth in the nation in kickoff returns, averaging 35.3 yards per return. He is one of ten players in the country with two kickoffs returned for touchdowns.
Last week, I moved Penn State above Iowa for the top spot in the conference. While I felt justified last week to make the move based on the play of both schools, I feel even more justified this week to leave it that way. Penn State has averaged to win its past four conference games by 21 points, while Iowa has not played a wire-to-wire dominating game since early in the season. Yes, that's the style of play Iowa uses, but it could catch up to them even with another trap game this week against Northwestern. Penn State is simply playing better than Iowa.
Despite a two-game losing streak that included giving up 25- and 14-point leads, IU is still in position for a bowl. At least that's what ESPN.com's Bruce Feldman is projecting. Feldman lists an IU v. Western Michigan rematch from earlier this season in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl in Detroit.
Facing a Hawkeye team known for forcing turnovers, challenging quarterbacks and shutting down opponents to end games, IU’s offensive production all but vanished in the second half.
Iowa dropped one spot in the AP poll after needing a 28-point fourth quarter effort to defeat IU on Saturday. The Hawkeyes entered the game No. 7 in the AP Poll and No. 4 in the BCS Standings.
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Heading into halftime, IU held a 21-7 lead against the undefeated No. 7 Iowa Hawkeyes.
So much for Iowa's unstoppable defense. At least for one half.
Indiana at Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Heading into halftime, IU held a 21-7 lead against the undefeated No. 7 Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hoosiers were poised to pull off the biggest win of their season. But then they played the second half.
By facing the BCS No. 4-ranked team this week, there's plenty more predictions to choose from - I'm not stuck relying on blogs with little-to-none credibility. Oddsmakers place Iowa as a 17-point favorite. Here's what various media outlets are predicting for tomorrow's game:
After missing last week's game due to injury, starting linebacker Will Patterson and cornerback Donnell Jones are listed as probable on IU's final injury report. Neither player was listed on the depth chart earlier in the week.
Iowa has an 8-0 record, a No. 7 Associated Press ranking and a No. 4 Bowl Championship Series ranking, but the Hawkeyes have trailed in all but one of their games this season.
IU athletics director Fred Glass said Tuesday that he will honor Lynch’s contract, which runs through the 2011 season.
Bill Lynch took a handful of questions about athletic director Fred Glass saying he will honor his contract for the next two years. Here's what Lynch said:
IU coach Bill Lynch addressed the media Tuesday afternoon at his weekly press conference.Much of what Lynch said was repeated from last night's radio show, so I will try not to repeat myself. Check out the radio show recap here.
