So much for Iowa's unstoppable defense. At least for one half.
IU quarterback Ben Chappell threw two touchdown passes and running back Darius Willis rushed for one score as the Hoosiers jumped to a 21-7 lead at halftime against Iowa.
The Hoosiers have controlled the game tempo from the beginning, as they marched the opening drive 69 yards down the field. Willis outran the Iowa defense to the corner of the end zone for an 11-yard score to cap the drive.
In the second quarter, IU capitalized on a bad punt from Iowa punter Ryan Donahue that sailed into the crowd in Hoosier territory. Five plays later, Chappell connected with well-defended wide receiver Mitchell Evans for a 16-yard touchdown pass.
Iowa responded on the ensuing drive with an 85-yard drive ending in a 4-yard touchdown run from running back Brandon Wegher.
With less than a minute prior to halftime, Amari Spievey fumbled a Chris Hagerup punt at the 12-yard line. The Hoosiers punched in another score as Chappell found a wide open Damarlo Belcher in the end zone on an inside slant route.
The Hoosiers have only out-gained Iowa by four total yards, but the Hawkeyes have two turnovers and have committed four penalties.
