A slew of commitments for the 2011 class have come in the past week, with several recruits verbally committing to play for Bill Lynch and the Hoosiers.
All the speculation of the tight scholarship situation the Hoosiers were in for 2011 can now end, as sophomore center Bawa Muniru has decided to leave the program.
The IU Athletic Department honors several athletes at the end of each academic year as the Indiana Athletes of the Year. The 2010 winners for the female award were seniors Molly Beckwith and Kateryna Fesenko. For the men, sophomores Alex Dickerson and Derek Drouin were chosen.

The 2011 recruiting class now has 14 members with the commitment of Mark Murphy (St. Vincent-St. Mary HS, Akron, OH). The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety also had offers from Air Force, Arizona, and Kent State.

Nick Stoner (Center Grove H.S., Greenwood, IN) became the 12th player to commit to the Hoosiers 2011 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 155-pound back chose the Hoosiers over other offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Louisville, Toledo and Western Kentucky.
Sophomore Alex Dickerson received First Team All-American honors from the National College Baseball Writers Association, after being named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American earlier this month.

ESPN blogger Adam Rittenberg has been ranking Big Ten players, and he ranked IU's Tandon Doss at #14. In a list counting down from 25, Doss is currently the only Hoosier listed, but with 13 other players left to be named, other Hoosiers could potentially make his preseason list.
Morgan Melloh will join the Hoosiers for the 2011 season, after spending the past 3 seasons at Fresno State. While at Fresno State, Melloh had a career ERA of 1.76, and was 90-35 overall. She has 95 complete games, ans 42 shutouts in 112 starts.
After spending two years at Wake Forest, the former 2007 Indianapolis Player of the Year will transfer back to his home state to play for the Hoosiers.
Sources within the conference say that a decision to change the name might come within the next six months, or could take up to a year. The decision might be delayed until the conference finishes the 18 month time span they proposed for expansion.

Small forward Basil Smotherman(6-foot-4, 180 pounds) of Heritage Christian and shooting guard Zak Irvin(6-foot-4, 155 pounds) of Hamilton Southeastern have both received scholarship offers from IU.
Sophomore Derek Drouin has managed to win not one, but two NCAA National Championships in the same year. The high jumper snagged the top spot during the 2010 Indoor National Championships and again at this past weekend’s 2010 Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Ore. Drouin is the first Hoosier to ever win indoor and outdoor titles in the same event and in the same calendar year.
Rumors have run rampant across the country about the reshuffling of conferences and which schools could end up as members of the Big Ten Conference. Could Texas come? Would Oklahoma follow? What about Missouri or Maryland? For now, only one school will definitely be joining the Big Ten: the University of Nebraska.
