Gardens & Villa; The Bishop

9:30 PM, Thursday, September 26

Meet the five dudes from California who have hitchhiked the West Coast until they found themselves, without kitchen or showers in the Oregon studio of Richard Swift, to bring you the freshest of quasi-minimalist, new age coastal beats. Gardens & Villa, derived from an address on Villa Street, is heavy in the close-to-the-microphone humming, stomp-easy beat sound with an occasional tinkling of an electrical keyboard. Combined with lyrics describing the West Coast life of "stony bike rides, dance parties, [and] a free sense of judgment" the music makes for a slightly moralistic, slightly carefree head-swinger's or finger snapper's soundtrack. It's also great passing-the-time-during-a-rainy-day playlist. And we've already got plenty of those this week!
