Fang Island, an all-male rock anthem band hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, will kick off Culture Shock in Dunn Meadow. Originally created as an art school project at Rhode Island School of Design in 2005, the band combines just enough discordant guitar shredding with indie-rock vocals to make you think you're hearing Matt & Kim's cover of "Through the Fire and Flames." Most recently, they've been touring America with their 2010 self-titled album, which received an 8.3 and the prestigious label of "Best New Music" from Pitchfork Media. While the five band members will bring the arena rock energy at the end of the night, they'll be preceded by The People's Temple, Saintseneca, Busmans Holiday, Triptides, The Kernal, New Terrors, Fly Painted Feathers and The Broderick, which range in style from space rock to wailing jam band shreds. There'll be a little something for anyone who can appreciate a good melody.
