Once you're done getting rocked by *ask at Landlocked Friday evening, come get, erm, bluegrassed a few doors down at the Bluebird. The McCoury name means bluegrass royalty; Travelin' McCourys members Rob and Ronnie McCoury carry the torch first set ablaze by their dad, Del, and they've enlisted some of the best musicians on the circuit to help them out. The tour they're kicking off in Bloomington Friday is fittingly billed as "The Bluegrass Ball," and it sees support from a couple of other heavyweights in Yonder Mountain String Band's Jeff Austin and the String Cheese Incident's Billy Nershi. It should be interesting to see dudes from such renowned touring acts take the stage as solo artists. If you're typically hesitant to check out something beyond the established parameters of the general "indie" scene in town, this as good a way to break the mold as any. Grab your dancing shoes and do something different.
