All Ages

When American thrash metal's Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) joined forces to play a handful of dates in 2010 and 2011, it was unequivocally awesome. They sold out Yankee Stadium, and a vicious recording of a show in Sofia, Bulgaria played in select U.S. movie theaters. Examining the setlists, though, it becomes clear that the bands were doing 90% older material. Given the lineup, that was probably for the best. Megadeth and Slayer have been treading water for a while now, and despite a strong showing with 2008's Death Magnetic, there's about 15 years of Metallica history that are better left ignored.

Since those shows, Anthrax has cut a new album - the terrific Worship Music - with recently reinstated vocalist Joey Belladonna, and they're currently in the midst of the second leg of a tour with two more thrash lifers, Testament and Death Angel. These are three bands who you don't mind whipping out a bunch of new material live; Worship Music, Testament's The Formation of Damnation and Death Angel's Relentless Retribution are all among the best-reviewed albums of their respective bands' long careers.

The tour stops at the Egyptian Room in Indianapolis on Friday, and it should go almost without saying that it will kick massive amounts of ass. Come get caught in a mosh, Bloomington, and thrash like it's '87 to music written in '11.
