After being stuck at a bluegrass festival somewhere in Virginia last weekend, Brett Dennen said he's ready to leave the hippie scene and get to a club like The Bluebird.

"It's a certain intimacy," Dennen told Live Buzz. "There's just something special with the dynamics and nuances that you don't get at a bigger venue." Or at a country festival, apparently.

Bloomington will be on the acoustic singer-songwriter's agenda Tuesday at 8 p.m. Along with satisfying his cravings for Farm and Root's beet juice, Dennen looks to get a few songs tangled in people's minds and get the crowd to dance to his new record, "Loverboy." The April release was a fourth-time charm for Dennen, receiving attention from NPR and landing his name on Rolling Stone's "Artists to Watch."

"The album was written to get somebody to fall in love with me," Dennen said. "It's simple, fun, upbeat, and it worked."

Dennen basically told Live Buzz two things. One, his hair is naturally red, and two, "Kristina" is spelled with a "K" - she's the one that made Dennen a "Loverboy."

"I met her while I was writing the album," Dennen said. "I just wanted to fall in love, and then it was her."

Accompanying Dennen Tuesday will be one of his new favorite artists, Blind Pilot.

"[Blind Pilot's] melodies and harmonies are just good indie rock played by good people," Dennen said.

Tickets are $18, and Dennen says he expects the two sets to make for a positive, high-energy night.

"I'm looking forward to it, I'm excited," Dennen said. "I know we're going to rock."
