Disappears is a Chicago band that plays high-energy garage rock with heavy doses of noise and fuzz. When their drummer left a few months ago to play full time with The Fruit Bats, they took a shot in the dark and e-mailed Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth asking him to replace him. When Shelley said yes, the band gained major publicity, rounded out their lineup, and struck pure gold simultaneously.
