When folk music inspired four guys by the names of Hiraz Dada, Chris Hainey, Dave Davison, and Erin Elders to experiment with dissonant chords, the result was math rock band Maps & Atlases. However, after signing with Barsuk Records in 2010, the band would expand their folk/math sound to include a more pop vibe in the creation of their debut album Perch Patchwork.

Though genres seem to be evolving, Maps & Atlases' use of diverse dynamics and technical rhythms remain constant in order to keep their unique sound. With remaining true to their original artistic resonance, the only other thing that is changing is their fan base, which has been growing immensely.

With their current tour, the Chicago-based band is making a number of stops throughout the Midwest reaching as far south as Florida. Though singles off of their previously self-released EP's such as Trees, Swallows, Houses have been a favorite among fans in the past, Maps & Atlases will surely play their newer tracks as well.

Maps & Atlases will be playing Tuesday in Bloomington at The Bishop. After all, with a new genre, new label, and new album, the band can only hope to continue gaining new fans.
