Everyone keeps asking me what I'm doing for New Year's. Being the spontaneous girl that I am, my calendar has yet to be filled. Last year a bunch of girlfriends and I holed up in a Manhattan walk-up with Thai food and a bottle of Shiraz to watch the shimmering ball make its annual descent.
While this year's plans still remain unknown, one thing is certain: New Year's, all though chalked up to generally way more than it turns out to be, remains a great night for clothes.
For this year's festivities, I'm thinking of going for the bad-girl-who-got-caught-in-a -glitter-wrestling-match look. Hopefully I don't step over the fine line between Gaga fabulous and washed-up Studio 54 wannabe.
For the perfect New Year's look, stick to dark hues like black or chrome. For a sleek streamlined silhouette, go with a liquid legging or tailored biker jacket. Going a little over the top with your cat suit is OK. Remember, the more PVC you wear, the less chance you have of getting stains from spilled champagne.

The perfect party dress is a must for New Years. A curve hugging number like the Herve Leger Bandage Dress is super sexy and looks great on a variety of shapes.
Something with major sparkle is another New Years must. A frock covered in tiny mirrored pieces like the one Taylor Swift wore to the 2009 BRIT Awards makes a glimmering statement. When competing with a giant legendary ball, you've gotta bring the glitter.
Swift's exemplary dress:
Heels are a definite must, unless of course you're camping out in Times Square. Platform pumps or stiletto boots are super chic. Studded heels like the metallic ones from Louise Goldin (see photo below) are awesome for the occasion, and deliver that perfect bad girl kick.
New Years is a little sweeter if you add a dash of spice with chrome accents and studded leather. Anything with sequins and sparkle make the night a little brighter, no matter what your plans may be.
Have a happy New Years! Stay safe, and see you next year!
