2009 and awesome live music in Bloomington went together like reality TV and crazy people. As editor of Live Buzz, I've compiled some of my favorite posts and features below for your reading pleasure. Enjoy looking back at Bloomington's best shows, hope they also bring you back to some of your favorite nights of the year.
Coverage
Dead Prez @ Buskirk-Chumley. February 25th
Right away, they ripped into Turn Off the Radio," followed by "We Need a Revolution," the bass absolutely bumping and shaking my entire body (but you'll have that when you sit right next to the 'woofers).

Sufjan Stevens @ The Buskirk-Chumley September 30
Along with his already established musical talents, Sufjan divulged an anecdote from his childhood in which the adults of his life attempted to decide what he would be when he grew up. They threw out the possibilities of him being a Lawyer, an Engineer or a member of the armed services because of their promised longevity, but Sufjan decided to become a musician claiming that "Art is forever."

With bone-crushing beats and an added echoing effect on Yoni Wolf's vocals, this beast of a song was absolutely incredible live. It was the first song I had ever heard by Why? so the experience was truly special.

Profiles
"From South Africa to South Central Indiana"
Lead vocalist and guitarist Linda Buthelezi describes the band as "four cultures meeting in one room." Each member comes from a different culture in South Africa: Xhosa, Zulu, Tswana and Pedi. And each member also has his own taste, with influences ranging from church music to South African pop funk.
For the band, these differences don't interfere, but contribute to forming a cohesive effort.
