Bloomington's local video store The Cinemat has stopped offering video rentals after six years, according to a press release from yesterday. It will continue as a venue for until March 31. The store is hoping to confirm shortly that they will take booking offers until late May.
Starting Feb.20, The Cinemat will sell its collection of VHS tapes and DVDs. The hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. You can check their Web site for the collection. The store will be giving a portion of its collection to Bloomington's other independent video store, Plan Nine. Credits from the Cinemat members will also be transferred to Plan Nine.
Owner Steve Volan said in the press release that he decided to close shop due to a few reasons- from the economic downturn to the popularity of online sites that show film and movies.
The Cinemat was a great all ages venue, and I've personally seen a lot of great, intimate shows there. It will be missed...
