IU men's golf Coach Mike Mayer is recovering from a heart attack he suffered on Monday. Assistant Director of Media Relations Nate Wiechers confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Mayer was admitted to IU Health's Bloomington Hospital on Monday. He said no specific information about Mayer's condition would be released at this time, saying only, "Coach is doing well." Former IU assistant Coach Josh Brewer tweeted "Keep @IUMensGolf Head Coach Mike Mayer in your prayers as he is recovering from a heart attack #Hoosiers #mentor #getwell." ACC/Big Ten Challenge: Indiana vs. North Carolina
Junior outside hitter Jordan Haverly of the IU volleyball team has been named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection. Haverly led the Hoosiers in total kills, points, service aces and ranked second on the team in digs. She missed last season when she tore her ACL, MCL, LCL, and suffered meniscus tears in a spring game before the 2011 season. This year the junior played in 119 of the 121 sets IU played. "I'm very proud of Jordan's accomplishments this year," IU Coach Sherry Dunbar said.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the first time in her college career, freshman guard Nicole Bell scored in double-digits to help the Indiana women's basketball team to a 64-47 victory against IPFW Monday night at Assembly Hall. After subbing in for senior forward Aulani Sinclair who picked up her second foul at the 15:15 mark in the first half, Bell showed that Sinclair, who leads the Big Ten in three-point field goal percentage (55 percent), is not the only sharpshooter on the team. Bell made two three-pointers in the next 1:04.
Monday evening, the Big Ten announced the 2012 editions of the all-conference football teams, with IU garnering nine mentions. Sophomore wide receiver Cody Latimer and senior defensive tackle Adam Replogle were named to the All-Big Ten second team by the media and the coaches respectively, leading the way for the most Hoosiers honored by the conference since 2001. On 51 receptions in 2012, Latimer recorded 805 receiving yards and six touchdowns, averaging 67.1 receiving yards per game.
In a "pitch-hit" role for head coach Tom Crean, associate coach Tim Buckley takes questions from the media after IU defeated Ball State 101-53 at Assembly Hall.
The Hoosiers can put up points in a hurry After eight minutes of play, the Hoosiers entered the second media timeout of the first half with an unimpressive 12-8 lead over Ball State. Over the next 12 minutes, IU turned on the jets and blew past the Cardinals, finishing the half on a 38-11 run to take a 50-19 lead into halftime. Four three-pointers, 5-of-6 shooting from Will Sheehey and three players - Sheehey, Jordan Hulls and Cody Zeller - finishing the half with at least 10 points were the reasons behind the Hoosiers' big run. For the past two seasons, IU has showed their quick-scoring ability a number of times, but Sunday's game was the latest example. When the Hoosiers get rolling, they are a tough team to stop.

Saturday afternoon, IU finished its 2012 football season in a 56-35 loss at Purdue. Though the team ended the season on a three-game losing streak, the Hoosiers finished the year with a 4-8 record, a three-win improvement compared to its 2011 mark of 1-11. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- In the Hoosiers' final game of the 2012 season, the team has earned a halftime lead against rival Purdue, 21-14. After three straight games in which IU's offense has rushed for less than 100 yards, running back Stephen Houston has single-handedly broken the streak.
I got the chance to talk to Bobby "Slick" Leonard of the 1953 national championship team last week before he and his teammates were honored at halftime of the Hoosiers' win against Sam Houston State. Leonard reminisced about his days at IU, including telling story after story of the season where he helped bring IU its second national championship, but he also had some strong opinions about the condition of IU's Assembly Hall. As any fan who's been to a single game at Assembly Hall knows, the arena's seats go very high up without taking up much space; simply put: the stairs are crazy steep.
