Delta Gamma wins women's race...

Wow, what a race! Barack Obama made an appearance, the rain held off, there were blue skies throughout and it came down to the final lap. Four teams were consistently ahead of the pack (Delta Gamma, Teter, Delta Sigma Pi, and Kappa Alpha Theta). With around 25 laps to go, Teter's Sarah Rieke broke away from the pack and took about a half-lap lead.

Two Reasons to Cheer Up

With suspensions, transfers, injures and early entry's to the NFL draft, not a lot has been going very well for the IU football as of late. For you Hoosier die hards I have two things that may just cheer you up this Little 500 Weekend. 1) Andrew Means injury isn't as bad as first feared, and he'll likely be fine come football season. 2) At least THIS GUY doesn't play for the Hoosiers.

It's finally here...

Race day is now upon us and as I look out the window it's not raining at the moment. It rained hard last night, so hopefully today will be rain free.

Holloway verbals to Xavier

While it has appeared in recent weeks that Devin Ebanks is unlikely to stay with his original decision to come to IU, Hoosier fans were a bit more optimistic about point guard Terrell Holloway.

Blog blog blog blog blog

It occurred to me I haven't blogged away enough lately, so I thought I'd make a triumphant return to this space with a weather report: 49 degrees and light rain Saturday. That's right, a whole four degrees warmer than before for the men's race.

Crean meets briefly with Knight

Mike and I had a sit down interview with new Hoosier coach Tom Crean today. We will have two stories in tomorrow's paper, but we are going to try and put some stuff on the blog that won't get into the paper. The relationship between former Hoosier coach Bob Knight and the University has been non-existent since Knight's firing in 2000.

Means' injury update

Hey baseball fans, We've just got word into the the newsroom that Andrew Means' wrist injury is not serious. There was no ellaboration on what exactly the injury to the wrist is or how long Means will be out. So to sum: Andrew Means injured his right wrist stealing home in the first inning of the early game in Sunday's doubleheader . Means finished both games, but did not dress today's series finale and had a brace on the wrist.

Burning Questions...

There is only a week left before the Little 500 and there is probably a lot that you, the loyal reader, are dying to know.

Pre-Race query

The most difficult part of being a rookie rider is knowing how to train. Each team is required to have a coach, but this coach isn't required to have any expertise.

Team Pursuit Results

Brian and I went to the track last night to catch the end of Team Pursuit. Kappa Delta and Teter were in the Women's finals, while the Men's final had Phi Psi and Cutters. In the end, both Teter and Cutters continued their reign on top of the overall standings with wins in Team Pursuit.

All they needed was three outs

Despite a 5-hit effort by Josh Phegley and a potent Hoosier offense, IU fell to Illinois today 8-7. In the first of a four-game home stand against the Illini, IU (now 13-10, 2-3 Big Ten) found itself up 7-4 heading into to the ninth inning, needing only three outs to put away a very good Illinois team (now 15-7, 4-1 Big Ten). Anthony Agnew had already pitched five innings for IU heading into the ninth, but began to run out of gas as he allowed a base hit, a double and a walk.

Obama: Crean a 'good coup' for IU

Mary Beth Schneider of the Indianapolis Star caught up with Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama at a campaign stop in Fort Wayne and asked what he though of IU's new coach. He's impressed, but a little out of touch with IU basketball news. "Star: We understand you like basketball.

More Random Practice Observations

As far as I know, nothing interesting or news worthy at all has happened at IU this week. So i'm sure you're all dying to read more various football practice observations, and i'm a man of the people - so here they are: * Cornerback Adrian Burks, who IU coach Bill Lynch has praised on multiple occasions, was working opposite of presumed starting cornerback Christopher Phillips.
