The IU volleyball team continues the Big Ten season with a home match at 1 p.m. today against No. 8 Minnesota. A few pre-match notes as the Hoosiers (13-4, 2-1) prepare to clash with the Golden Gophers (12-3, 3-0). The two schools split the series in 2008, each winning at home.
When IU coach Bill Lynch said that his team has never faced a player like Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, he wasn't kidding. Pryor finished with 222 yards and four touchdowns in the air and on the ground in leading his team to a 33-14 rout over the Hoosiers on Saturday night.

Well, Mark Cuban is picking the Hoosiers to win. But not many others. A quick scan through all the major sports news Web sites (ESPN, CBS, SI, FoxSports, etc.) has no one picking the Hoosiers to even make it a close game like last week in Ann Arbor. In the link from the Columbus Dispatch, no one but Cuban is picking the Hoosiers to score more than 13 points.
Indiana ended a three-game win streak Friday evening when they lost to University of California-Santa Barabara 3-0 in California. Surrounded by a crowd of 10,114, the Hoosiers were unable to net any of their 11 shots. Freshman Matt Wiet said the team lost momentum after a controversial call on UC-Santa Barbara's second goal. Both Wiet and IU coach Mike Freitag said the team's first 15 minutes on the pitch held some quality play, but as the clock ticked the Hoosier began to lag. Jelan Kendrick, the No. 8 player in the nation according to Rivals.com, is scheduled for an in-home visit with members of the IU basketball staff tonight. Kendrick, a 6-foot-6-inch small forward out of Marietta, Ga., is a 2010 five-star recruit who has been relatively tight-lipped about his recruitment, so this news comes as a surprise, although it was known that IU was in the picture for his collegiate services. We'll try to get in touch with Kendrick some point this week.

Defensive end Jammie Kirlew is having a great year on the field this season, but his off-the-field accomplishments continue to rack up as well. Kirlew will already be recognized at this year's Sugar Bowl for his character, and now he is closer to another similar award. This from the IU athletics department: Indiana senior defensive end Jammie Kirlew has been named one of 54 Football Bowl Subdivision semifinalists for the 2009 William V.
