The IU volleyball team continues the Big Ten season with a home match at 1 p.m. today against No. 8 Minnesota.

A few pre-match notes as the Hoosiers (13-4, 2-1) prepare to clash with the Golden Gophers (12-3, 3-0).

  • The two schools split the series in 2008, each winning at home. The Gophers swept the Hoosiers by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-18 in the Oct. 10 meeting in Minneapolis, and IU responded Nov. 1 with a five-set victory in Bloomington by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22 and 15-9.
  • Minnesota currently ranks second in the Big Ten in blocking with a 2.81 per-match average, and IU is right behind the Gophers in third with a 2.62 per-match average.
  • Minnesota junior middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer is the conference's top individual blocker with a 1.51 average. IU junior middle blockers Taylor Wittmer and Ashley Benson rank fifth and eighth, respectively, with 1.23 and 1.13 averages.
  • The Golden Gophers' match at IU is part of its first road trip of the Big Ten season, writes Keith Beise in The Minnesota Daily.

The Hoosiers' next contest takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday at No. 12 Illinois.
