Despite turnovers, foul trouble and the absence of Devan Dumes, the Hoosiers (6-17, 1-10) hung with the Gophers until the end. But IU's effort fell up short for the 17th time this season, losing at Minnesota, 62-54.

The team's 17th ties the school record for most losses in a season. The 1969-70 Hoosiers, coached by interim head coach Jerry Oliver, also lost 17 (for more, click here).

Tuesday night, the Hoosiers managed just 20 points in the first half before freshman guard Verdell Jones beat the halftime buzzer with a lay-up, giving IU some momentum going into the second.

In the second half, like they have so many times this season, the Hoosiers too often were guilty of killing their own runs. IU turned the ball over 25 times.

Without Dumes, the Hoosiers had four players finishing in double digits, led by Jones with 18. Freshman guard Nick Williams had 13 and freshmen guards Malik Story and Matt Roth each had 11.
