Indiana men’s and women’s golf both competed to close their fall slate during tournaments Monday and Tuesday. The men’s team finished fourth overall of 13 teams at the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana, with seven Hoosier players competing. Five women played in the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah, Illinois, finishing in first place.
The women played a par-72 course at the Medinah Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, where they placed first overall out of 15 competing teams. Indiana shot a 24-under-par final score, beating both the University of Mississippi and University of Missouri, two teams ranked inside the Scoreboard top-30.
This is the second time Indiana has finished No. 1 in a tournament under head coach Bryan May and the seventh top-three finish under his tutelage. The Hoosiers beat their three-round score record by seven strokes, with all three rounds falling within the program’s top-12 finishes.
Junior Cara Heisterkamp tied for third, marking her best collegiate performance to date with a personal record of 11-under-par. She averaged 4.25 strokes on par 5s and tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 19. She closed the third round with a 5-under 31 on the back nine with no bogeys, securing the title for the Hoosiers. This was the third consecutive performance in which Heisterkamp posted the lowest score for Indiana.
Senior Katie Poots tied for eighth place with a 7-over-par score, senior Sheridan Clancy tied for 12th with a 5-under-par total and sophomore Saia Rampersaud tied for 34th at 1-over-par. Senior Harriet Lockley finished tied for 59th with a 7-over-par final score.
The men’s golf team finished its fall slate Monday and Tuesday at the Kampen-Cosler Golf Course in West Lafayette, where it played 54 holes on a par-72 course. The Hoosiers won the Purdue Fall Invitational in 2024 — the last time they competed in the event.
This event was played in a “play six, score five” format instead of the traditional “play five, score four,” where six players are on the course for a round, but only the best five individual scores count toward the team’s total. The Hoosiers had a three-round team score of 19-over-par.
Senior Cole Starnes tied for second place with a 7-under-par score. He improved seven places from his last performance at the Fighting Irish Classic at the University of Notre Dame on Oct. 6.
Sophomore Jake Cesare tied for fifth with a 4-under-par final score. Junior Jamison Ousley tied for 32nd at 7-over-par, and senior Nick Piesen finished joint-35th with an 8-over-par total.
Three more players competed and placed in the top 100. Senior Neri Checcucci tied for 39th at 9-over-par, junior Bradley Chill Jr. tied for 65th with a 16-over-par final score and freshman Duff McKay tied for 82nd at 25-over-par.
While the men’s team has concluded its fall slate, Indiana women’s golf has one final fall competition Oct. 23-25 at the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.
