Indiana field hockey earned its first national ranking of the season, coming in at No. 18 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
The Hoosiers split their weekend series with then-No. 2 Iowa, upsetting the Hawkeyes 3-1 Friday before falling 2-1 in a penalty shootout Sunday in a non-conference matchup. Indiana is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play.
The Hoosiers are one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the NFHCA poll. Northwestern ranks No. 1, with a 9-0 record and garnering all 11 first place votes. Maryland replaced Iowa at No. 2 this week, as the Hawkeyes fell to No. 5. Indiana will host the Wildcats on Oct. 16 at Deborah Tobias Field and the Terrapins on Oct. 25 at home.
Michigan is ranked No. 13 this week, staying put after wins against Michigan State and Central Michigan University last week. The Hoosiers will look to continue their strong play when they return to Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington to take on the Wolverines on Saturday. The game will be streamed on Big Ten+.
