The following is a press release written by Danny Gutierrez for Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
The Buskirk-Chumley Theater and Bloomington Roots are excited to welcome Grammy-nominated Yonder Mountain String Band to Bloomington on Wednesday, October 21. The show starts at 7 PM, with doors at 6:30 PM. The event is open to all ages.
Bloomington based bluegrass group Low Landers, fronted by banjo player Jesse Beals, will open the show.
For nearly three decades, Yonder Mountain String Band has pushed acoustic music into new spaces, helping redefine what bluegrass could sound like and who it can reach. That pioneering energy carries into the band's twelfth studio album, Good As True, released March 27, 2026. Recorded with musicians playing together in real time, the album explores communication in all its forms: the conversations that hold people together, and the ones that quietly come apart.
Good As True was co-written by longtime members Adam Aijala (guitar, vocals), Dave Johnston (banjo, vocals), and Ben Kaufmann (bass, vocals), alongside Nick Piccininni (mandolin, vocals), and is performed by the band's full five-piece lineup, including fiddler Coleman Smith. The result is a record that feels both familiar and progressive, and is proof that Yonder Mountain String Band's story is still being written.
