The following is a press release written by Danny Gutierrez for the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is proud to welcome Sam Grisman Project on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 7 PM.

Led by bassist Sam Grisman, the ensemble is a dynamic, ever-evolving collective of exceptional musicians dedicated to celebrating and expanding the legacy of American acoustic music. Raised in Mill Valley, California, Grisman grew up surrounded by legendary artists who frequented his father’s home studio—icons such as Jerry Garcia, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, and John Hartford —all of whom helped shape his deep musical roots and collaborative spirit.

Sam Grisman Project was formed to honor that lineage while bringing a fresh, modern energy to the music. Featuring a rotating lineup of some of the finest acoustic players in the country, each performance is unique—blending bluegrass, folk, Americana, and improvisation into a rich and communal live experience.

The group frequently collaborates with renowned artists, including bluegrass pioneer Peter Rowan, further connecting the music to the historic “Old and In the Way” tradition. With a wide-ranging repertoire and a deep respect for the roots of the genre, Sam Grisman Project creates a space where both musicians and audiences can share in the joy, reverence, and spontaneity of live acoustic performance.

Performing fully acoustically into condenser microphones, the ensemble prioritizes the natural sound of their instruments and voices, offering an intimate and immersive listening experience. Audiences are encouraged to enjoy the music attentively and embrace the communal spirit that defines each show.

Critics and fans alike have praised the group’s heartfelt approach:

“They don’t just play this music. They live it. And they make you feel like you’re part of it too.” — No Depression

“This isn’t nostalgia. It’s a living, breathing celebration led by musicians who understand the soul of the music.” — Bluegrass Today

“One of the most joyful and reverent tributes to the Grateful Dawg legacy you’ll ever witness.” — Relix Magazine
