Amid preparation for its first-ever national championship game Jan. 19, No. 1 Indiana football is continuing to assemble its top-10 transfer portal class.
Former Tulane University wide receiver Shazz Preston committed to the Hoosiers on Monday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett’s X post. Preston has one season of eligibility remaining.
Preston was formerly a four-star recruit and ranked as the 120th-best player nationally in the 2022 high school recruiting class. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at the University of Alabama, playing in 10 total games on special teams and at receiver.
However, after Preston didn’t record a reception during his time with the Crimson Tide, he transferred to Tulane ahead of the 2024 season. He caught four passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the Green Wave before breaking out in 2025.
The 6-foot, 206-pound Preston made 43 catches for 723 yards and four touchdowns across Tulane’s run to the College Football Playoff this season. The Saint James, Louisiana, native notched five receptions for 125 yards in the Green Wave’s first-round loss to the University of Mississippi.
Now, Preston will join the Hoosiers’ receiving corps — which will lose three receivers to graduation and potentially Omar Cooper Jr. to the NFL — in 2026. Indiana previously landed coveted transfer receiver Nick Marsh and presumptive starting quarterback Josh Hoover in the portal Jan. 4.
