The Indiana University chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was placed on the IU Office of Student Life’s interim directives list, effective Oct. 31, for endangering others.
The fraternity’s social activities are now suspended.
IU places interim measures on parts of a chapter’s operations when there “is an ongoing investigation,” according to the Office of Student Life.
The fraternity is the third Greek life organization subject to discipline in the last two weeks, joining Alpha Epsilon Pi and Phi Kappa Psi — both on cease and desist for hazing.
Beta Chi Theta and Chi Phi are also on the interim directives list for hazing.
Sigma Phi Epsilon has been placed on disciplinary statuses the last three school years.
From Oct. 29 to Dec. 18, 2024, it entered a voluntary agreement with the Office of Student Conduct to “resolve a matter regarding Alcohol and Failure to Comply with University Policies.”
In 2023-24, the fraternity social events were restricted from Jan. 17 to Sept. 5, 2023, due to hazing allegations. It was also placed on disciplinary probation from May 6 to Dec. 15, 2023.
Sigma Phi Epsilon’s new member organization activities were suspended from Sept. 9 to Sept. 29, 2022, for endangering others and alcohol. Its disciplinary probation was in effect from March 4 to Dec. 15, 2022, for dishonest conduct, endangering others and hazing. It was then placed on elevated disciplinary probation from Jan. 17 to May 5, 2023 for hazing.
