Two crossings at the Bloomington Rail Trail will close for up to 30 days, the city announced Monday.

The City of Bloomington is closing the Bloomington Rail Trail at its Rogers Street crossing due to the “construction of accessibility and safety features,” according to a press release Monday.

The Monroe County Highway Department also approved a separate closure and detour at the South Rogers Street crossing.

The closures are located 1.23 miles south of the trailhead on Country Club Drive and 0.81 miles north of the trailhead at Church Lane.

Both closures began Monday and will remain closed for up to 30 days. No detour is available at Rogers Street. However, according to the press release, the section of the path south toward the Southern Meadows neighborhood will remain open.

The new safety features include the installation of a new streetlight, pedestrian crosswalk button and paved trail sections on both sides of the road. The city will also realign the trail to create a 90-degree crossing at Rogers Street.

The project also includes vegetation removal, drainage updates and final restorations to integrate the project with the surrounding landscape.
