All watches and warnings have been lifted for Monroe County, according to the National Weather Service. Roughly 9,000 customers are currently without power in Monroe County.

4:54 p.m.

Monroe County is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. 34 counties in Indiana, along with portions of Illinois and Missouri, are also under a tornado watch, according to the NWS.

NWS warned of winds up to 60 miles per hour and penny-sized hail.

A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions predict thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes. If a tornado is sighted, it is upgraded to a tornado warning.

NWS recommends reviewing emergency plans and designating a safe room to prepare. Also be prepared to act quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

Monroe County residents can monitor the forecast through local weather channels and NWS live trackers.
