Two people killed in car accident on State Road 37 Monday

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car crash that killed two people at South State Road 37 and Zikes Road by Monroe Lake around 3 p.m. Monday. 

When Monroe County Sherrif’s deputies arrived on the scene, the drivers were trapped in the vehicles, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office press release. People from IU Health Lifeline Ambulance Service and Monroe Fire Protection administered medical care at the scene, but both drivers died. 

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office determined two drivers died from the injuries caused by the accident. Until their investigation is completed, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office will withhold the names of the drivers.  

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the accident was a head-on collision involving a 2012 White Chevrolet Express Van heading south on State Road 37 and a 2015 Black Mercedes Sprinter Van heading north.
