Good morning, Hoosiers! Indiana basketball combined for a 3-1 record this past week including a sweep over in-state rival Purdue.

No. 18 Indiana men’s basketball squared off against its rival and the No. 1-ranked team in the country in Purdue. With fans lining up as early as 10 p.m. the night before, the highly anticipated matchup didn’t disappoint. The Hoosiers jumped out to a 50-35 halftime lead thanks to a trio of freshmen. Guard Jalen Hood-Schifino piled up 16 points, including Indiana’s last four. Forwards Kaleb Banks and Malik Reneau each contributed energetic minutes, scoring 4 and 8 points respectively. The marquee matchup between junior center Zach Edey and senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis led to a battle throughout. Edey outscored Jackson-Davis, scoring 33 points to his counterpart’s 25 points, but Jackson-Davis had the last laugh. Indiana closed out a 79-74 victory and Hoosier fans stormed the court for the second time in two years.

Before facing Purdue, Indiana snapped its winning streak at Maryland on Tuesday. The Terrapins jumped on the Hoosiers’ mistakes, taking advantage of Indiana’s foul trouble and missed 3-pointers. Hood-Schifino made just one of his 14 shots from the field, and despite Jackson-Davis' 18 points and 20 rebounds, Indiana’s offense couldn’t keep pace. Maryland did enough defensively to thwart any comeback attempt, beating the Hoosiers 66-55.

Next up for Indiana’s men’s team is a rematch against No. 24 Rutgers, who beat the Hoosiers at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey, earlier this season.

No. 2 Indiana women’s basketball started its week at Minnesota. The Hoosiers jumped out to a big lead early, dominating the first quarter with a 20-6 advantage. Indiana added on to its lead by 7 points in the next period to enter halftime with a 41-20 lead. The Golden Gophers briefly fought back in the second half, but the Hoosiers were able to squash any comeback attempts, ultimately winning 77-54. Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes led Indiana with 28 points and four blocks, and junior guard Sydney Parrish added 23 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

The Hoosiers capped the week off in a road bout with Purdue, hoping to complete the weekend sweep the men’s team started on Saturday. In front of a roaring crowd of 14,876 in Mackey Arena, the Boilermakers challenged Indiana early. The Hoosiers held a 14-10 advantage after a sloppy first frame, but Purdue made a run to take the lead. Strong efforts from junior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil allowed Indiana to take a 31-26 halftime lead. In the second half, it was all Indiana. The Hoosiers overpowered the Boilermakers in the third period, holding Purdue to just 2 points on 1-of-17 shooting while forcing seven turnovers. Indiana kept Purdue at bay in the fourth quarter en route to a 69-46 final. Next on the horizon is a battle for the Big Ten, as Indiana takes on No. 5 Iowa in Bloomington on Thursday night.
