A rape was reported to have occurred on Sept. 23 at Briscoe Quadrangle according to the IU Police Department log.

The incident was reported anonymously to IUPD the following day. According to a statement from IUPD Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger, the victim returned to the residence hall with a person who later assaulted them in the accused person’s room.

The person who reported the assault did not wish to be contacted by IUPD, and the case is now inactive, Bunger said.

This is the fourth reported sexual assault on campus this month and the fifth of the semester. Multiple other sexual assaults have been reported near campus in the last several weeks. The Red Zone, which is described as the time from the start of the fall semester until Thanksgiving break, is a period of increased sexual violence on college campuses.

A list of resources is available here if you or someone you know has experienced sexual harassment or abuse.
