Crime Filler

A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest after midnight Tuesday, July 12 on the 400 block of South Walnut Street. The police issued a news release yesterday afternoon discussing the shooting.

The victim told the police that the vehicle pulled up next to him while he was walking, and the passengers started arguing with him. He said two passengers carried handguns and one fired at him.

The victim said in the news release that after the shooting, the vehicle went northbound on Walnut Street. He said he tried to crawl and call for help.

A caller informed the police that they heard a gunshot and a man calling for help, and the police arrived at the scene at around 1:17 AM. The news release and a B Square Bulletin post confirm that officers attended to the victim until he was dispatched to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Both sources said that multiple witnesses heard a single gunshot and a vehicle leaving immediately after. The victim was flown to Indianapolis for further treatment.

The police department said in the news release that this is an ongoing investigation and requested that anyone with information contact Detective Blake McCamey at 812-339-447
