Graduate Workers postpone first day of picketing due to severe weather

The Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition-United Electrical Workers announced in a tweet Wednesday morning the picket lines planned for the day are postponed due to inclement weather. Graduate workers still plan to begin their strike Wednesday.

The undergraduate walkout is also postponed, according to a tweet from the Bloomington chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America.

Wednesday is the first day of the graduate workers strike, following an authorization vote that passed with 97.8% of voters’ support. Graduate workers plan to remain on strike until the university meets their demands for recognition as a labor union.

Instead of Wednesday’s scheduled picket lines, the IGWC-UE will hold two virtual rallies on Zoom.

The graduate workers plan to begin picketing Thursday.
