Johnson Creamery smokestack could be unrepairable after city deems it unsafe

The Johnson Creamery smokestack in Bloomington may be unrepairable and is not safe, according to Indiana Public Media.

After a city inspection said the smokestack is potentially dangerous and ordered repairs to the facility be completed within 60 days, Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton said the top half of the smokestack must be reduced, according to Indiana Public Media.

For precautionary measures, the area around the smokestack was shut down, which includes a portion of the B-Line Trail, a 3.1-mile trail extending from Adams Street to Country Club Drive.

The creamery and the smokestack are a part of the National Register of Historic Places.
