Indiana football’s 2022 season opener against Illinois moved up to Friday, Sept. 2

Indiana football will open the 2022 season on Friday, Sept. 2, against Illinois, according to an Indiana Athletics release.

Indiana was originally scheduled to welcome Illinois to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington on Saturday, Sept. 3.

The home game will mark the first Friday season opener in Memorial Stadium history.

The Hoosiers will open the 2022 season with three consecutive games in Bloomington. After their opener against Illinois, the University of Idaho and Western Kentucky University will come to Bloomington on Sept. 10 and Sept. 17, respectively.

Indiana last played on a Friday in a 2018 matchup against Minnesota, a 38-31 loss. The team’s last Friday season opener was at Central Michigan University in 2005.
