Elton John surprised fans by revealing his new documentary, “Inside The Lockdown Sessions.” The English artist dropped the surprise release Nov. 30.

“Inside the Lockdown Sessions” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of his recent “The Lockdown Sessions” album during the pandemic. In this exclusive footage, he talks one-on-one with some of the fellow musicians via FaceTime.

“The Lockdown Sessions” is a collaborative album with each song recorded remotely over the last 18 months. This was the first time in nearly 50 years that Elton John stopped touring, according to the documentary.

Composed of 16 songs, Elton John’s 32nd studio album features 20 collaborators, including Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa, Lil Nas X, Miley Cyrus and Stevie Nicks.

In October, “The Lockdown Sessions” debuted at number one on the U.K. charts for the first time in almost a decade for the musician. The album also debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart.

With “Cold Heart” featuring Dua Lipa, John made American music history when the song debuted as John’s 68th entry on the chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

John also recently shared a teaser of his holiday collaboration with Ed Sheeran called “Merry Christmas,” which premiered Dec. 3. Proceeds from the single will go towards the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation.

The three-part documentary is streaming exclusively on Apple Music.
