Monroe County Commissioner Penny Githens will announce her candidacy for the 62nd Indiana House of Representatives seat at an event Sunday. The election is scheduled for the 2022 election cycle.

Her campaign launch event will be hosted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Monroe County Democratic Headquarters in Bloomington. The event will also be live streamed.

The 62nd District, which was redistricted earlier this year by Indiana’s state legislature, includes areas of Monroe, Brown and Jackson counties. Much of the Bloomington city limits sit outside of the newly redistricted 62nd district.

Githens currently represents Monroe County’s 3rd District on the Monroe County Commissioners. She unsuccessfully ran for the 60th District in 2018, losing to incumbent Republican Peggy Mayfield by 18%.
